The ‘Orange is the new Black’ actress has expressed her gratitude for being able to undergo gender reassignment surgery privately as opposed to Caitlyn Jenner. Laverne Cox has been very vocal and public regarding her support for the 65-year-old Caitlyn, previously known as Bruce Jenner, but clearly said that she didn’t envy the attention and spotlight that has been given to her transition.
She said that when a transition is done in the public eye, it becomes a story and it can be difficult to see and hear ongoing conversations about trans people relating to their surgery. She stated that this was the primary reason she was grateful to have avoided such attention. However, the 31-year-old actress did say that Caitlyn’s decision to undergo private transgender transformation even in the spotlight has been a step forward for the entire LGBT community. She said she expected Caitlyn to rise above this entire story.
Previously, the raven-haired beauty was highly appreciative of the support and love the former Olympian had gotten after she had made the decision of debuting as Caitlyn on the cover of Vanity Fair on 1st June. She wrote on Tumblr that it felt like a new day as transgender people could present themselves authentically to the world and be celebrated, appreciated and loved for it. She said that there wasn’t any doubt that Caitlyn looked beautiful and amazing, but the true beauty lies in her soul and heart because she has finally opened her vulnerabilities to the world.
